Fernando de Noronha is a north-eastern Brazilian archipelago that was included as a UNESCO world natural heritage site in 2001. About 70% of its 21-island territory lies within a national marine park, and as a consequence of strict fishing regulations, marine life is abundant and large predators such as barracudas, snappers, sharks and rays are widespread.
